"Hi Jason, The HT15 trumpet did arrive  as promised at 10:45 AM on Tuesday in good shape and in time for me to hand carry it back to Costa Rica on my flight that night.  After carefully unpacking it I asked my minister friend  if we could go to the church to try out this horn.  He is also an accomplished pianist and we have played together many times before.  On the way to the church I forewarned him that I hadn’t played for months, I had no ‘lip,’ and I hoped that no one would be in earshot of this inaugural practice session.  To make a long story short, he was amazed at how good I sounded—I quickly corrected him and let him know that the credit for the beautiful tone went to the horn.  I had asked you to build me a horn that was warmer, richer, and darker than a cornet, or a flugelhorn—and you did that magnificently.  Aside from the horn having the tonal quality I was looking for, I was simply amazed at how easily and surely it played ppp—with no tendency of the notes to break up or the tonal quality to thin out.  Of course I couldn’t resist opening it up to see how fffs responded and I realized (as you had suggested) that there was no need to over-blow the horn  to get the full resonant result.  With no ‘lip’ I had 45 minutes of pure musical ecstasy; I just could not set the horn down—it all but demanded to be played!   I now have the horn that inspires me to play my heart out.  Thanks again for creating such a superb instrument, beautiful to behold, a joy to play, and the greatest gift of all, a horn that immediately improves the performance of the musician.  Job well done. Thanks"

"Jason, It's been three years since I purchased my Muse 9/100 and I'd like to extend my personal thanks
and gratitude to what you've done not only for me, but for the trumpet community as a whole.
The Muse is easily the best trumept I've played.
The horn is not only a beautiful work of art, but also an extremely well built trumpet.
It slots excellently without sacrificing flexibility, easily blends with the ensembles
I perform with, and has a solid core throughout the entire range of the horn.
Again, thank you for a truly inspiring horn.
I wish you all the success in the future, and respect your artful craftsmanship."

Daniel Ambrosini

"I was a recipient of one of Jason's final modifications...
and I had the 909 modification done to my Kanstul 1525 copper bell Flugelhorn.
I must admit, at first I did not like how it played. Maybe I missed how it used to play or maybe I just didn't get it.
I almost sold it. But after about a month and a half something happened. I finally understood it.
Now I love it. When played lightly I can produce a beautiful puffy Flugel sound.
Played more aggressively it has a stronger tone, much stronger than before the modification.
The low notes and pedal tones are almost trombone like. Depending on how you approach it It's like having three horns in one .
I took it to New York and Mac Gollehon tried it, was impressed with it, and called it a legitimate instrument.
This has become my favorite horn and I can't believe that I almost sold it.!!!

"Thanks. I got the trim kit yesterday. Remember when I visited you and played the demos. I said I was never much of a believer in the weighted valve accessories. Then I experimented with them, observed and even felt the significant difference they make. Now that I am fully acclimated to my Bravura and they are on MY horn, all I can say is Wow! Everything just immediately snapped - especially the upper register. From double G on up the notes just lock right in. While I've had pretty good command up there, I was still working at it. Now, with the weighted trim kit, I'm not working at all and the pitches have never been stronger, easier to play or better in tune. It's as if, suddenly, the pitches are just all "there" - kind of that "a-ha!" moment. It's what I have been striving for, for many years. Thank you - thank you!

Donald Tapella, Harrelson Bravua w/ SWE Trim Kit - Blue Springs, MO

"Jason,  Your prototype T2 trumpet is fantastic.
I played it yesterday for 2-shows.  6-hours of playing time, right out of the box; for a musical/variety show group I play for here in Fresno.
The slotting-tone-sound- had all the guys in the band wanting more. It played terrific, and you need to put this model into your regular lineup of trumpets. This is the best custom-made do everything trumpet, I have owned and played in years.
Thank You for this horn."

Doug Teeter, Harrelson HT T2 Prototype - Fresno, CA

"Jason, This was my first church solo with the horn... ... ... am decently pleased with the outcome on this simple song.
I have not had the time I wished to spend with the horn to really get it flyin'.
Thought you might get a kick out of it."

"Hi Jason,
Received your trim kit... it is GREAT!
Now I have "another" horn.
My lightweight 6360 has changed to a "stonelike" piece of metal!
No Vibration in hand... just sound in the bell! THANKS!"

Andriy Nakonechnyy - UKRAINE

"Jason, The first time I played the Bravura I was floored with the response, sound, intonation, and ease of play.
I received my horn two months ago and it just keeps getting better.
I'm not sure what you do during your manufacturing process but it is amazing.
My range has increased, my struggles with intonation are gone, and my confidence level has greatly improved.
I can't say enough good things about the horn. Thanks again for everything you've done.
I'm having a blast!"

Warren Lopicka, Harrelson Bravura - Kansas City, MO

"Hi Jason, I just wanted to give you some feedback on the 908 modified Benge 90C that I purchased from you a few months ago. First, let me say that I have owned some fine C Trumpets. I have had a couple of excellent Bach 229/25H horns, one of which my teacher begged me into selling to him as it was the best C he had ever played. My main C up until now has been a fantastic Blackburn model, so the bar has been set rather high.

I must say that the 908 Benge 90C has eclipsed these other horns and is now my preferred C instrument. The 908 has a wonderful, sweet tone, yet has trememndous projection and ability to cut through and ride on top of the orchestra when I need it to. It slots extremely well and is actually better in tune than my Blackburn. It is less prone to chipping notes than my other horns, and the upper register response is superior with a greater feeling of confidence than I can push the horn and not have it break up.

The horn is obviously quite a bit heavier than my others, but feels very well balanced in the hand and responsive despite the weight. Finally, a number of people have commented on the unique appearance of the horn, which is a small thing, but rather nice.

So, basically, I am needless to say, very happy.
I am not sure how you do it, but this horn is certainly a looker and a great player. Thanks!

Cheers, Dave

"Ever since I tried my 909 I was blown away by the striking beauty on the outside and the great sounds that this work of art could achieve. My 909 makes me strive for perfection every time I pick it up. I hope that every trumpet player has the opportunity to try one of these horns at some point in their career... they will not be disappointed."

"The gold heavy caps came in today. They are very well made and fit my trumpet as good as the factory caps! The polished gold is very attractive and compliments the gold lacquer finish of my 8310z. They are .10 of an inch shorter than the Curry heavy caps, but weigh slightly more. Your caps give my trumpet a more custom look than the Curry's.  They look better made. They really sound great on my trumpet. It sounds slightly more mellow with your caps, which is a good. I can still make it sizzle on the top with high air pressure. Your caps do not make the trumpet feel stuffy and they make the notes slot easier than Curry's caps.
So far I am very pleased with your valve caps."

"Hi Jason, I got the trumpet yesterday.
I am completely blown away with it. The only problem is I can't stop playing it! So I
can't really yet judge how much more stamina I might have, I guess it must be more
otherwise I would have to stop! I am surprised how easy it was to get used to. I guess being a
multi- instrumentalist helps, being used to hearing lots of different sounds. I can't believe
how good these valves are, I just can't move fast enough to leave them behind, I have
played dozens of trumpets and cornets over forty years of professional playing and these
valves are the best ever! The response of the instrument is fantastic and the
tuning so easy, I hardly have to use any slides!

Thanks very much Jason I will send a photo of me
with the horn as soon as I can get one taken."

Robert White... Middlesex, United Kingdom, Harrelson Bravura

"Hi Jason, Jennifer..

Yes its a great trumpet... When I first tried the trumpet the feel and
sound  was impressive and is even better  now.I was playing with a holton T102,which was a good
trumpet in my opinion. But after playin with Harrelson M.trumpet
its totally different story. The sound is rich and bright at the same time, good intonation...

It encourages me to practice alot more and find my best form.I just regret I didn't
get one before now.I am based in Dublin and play most days of the week with several
bands,(reggae,funk-soul,motown,jazz,latin) My Harrelson
trumpet always draws lot of attention and I always get positive comments.
Thanks  alot Jason for this truely remarkable instrument."

Armen Babasyan (Harrelson 909) ... Dublin, Ireland

"Jason! This is the most stunning transformation of any sort of object I have ever seen in my life! You are a true artist! I hope we can do more business in the future. I have an old Reynolds Flugelhorn that is exactly like the one Miles Davis used to play... it spent its youth in a Middle School in Texas ( and looks like it ) It maybe some time in the future, but I can't wait to see what you can do for it. Thanks again! I seldom get to call anyone a genius!"

Art Martinmaki, IL (Getzen rebuild)

"Dear Jason, finally, after a year and a half here's my story.
The minute I got the horn out of the box I was stunned.
Rather than others ready to play the horn right away,
I was just sitting there for about an hour or three, looking at my horn.
What a transformation. Now everybody's saying I've got a "pimped" horn,
but I just say I've got an upgraded horn.
It is so much better then before. I really feel comfortable with it,
knowing it will do excactly what I want it to do.
So this really helped my range, power and stamina.
Not just because of the horn, but because my confidence was restored.
And the combination of these two has made me a better player.

So I'm really happy that I decided to send out my horn
across the Atlantic, wondering if I would ever see it again,
but you came through and I feel I'm getting better all the time.
So thanks and I'll keep you posted.
Best wishes and good luck with your business!

"... The Muse arrived today and it's a work of art! The craftsmanship is absolutely superb, and the mechanics are second to none. I have to say, there was a part of me that was skeptical about the efficiency thing, but having played it for the first time, I have to tell you that I've never played a horn like it! The sound is so much more focused than any previous trumpet I've played, and the upper register is incredibly centered and easy! Thank you for everything - I guess I'll be saving up my pennies to buy another horn (set up differently) from you in the future... I'm hooked.

-Jason's unique touch has given me trumpets that play like a dream. I have played the C 906 for three years now, and I still get excited when I open the case to play it. The response is SO quick, I feel I barely have to touch it and I'm off and running. Jason's modification has enabled me to focus solely on music making and created a true "High-Definition" extension of my imagination. The Bb is only a few months old, but it is such a match with my C, that I feel like I've had it just as long. Playing Harrelson Trumpets has allowed me to turn my musical thoughts into reality, and that makes my job so much easier. I feel I can blend with whatever is going on around me, whether it be brass, winds, strings, or voice from the stage, and the feedback I have received from my colleagues attests to that. I can also relax when I need to project over something, knowing that the 906 can do the work for me.

The "Less is More"  slogan is no joke. I consistently feel like I work less than ever, and can achieve the results I desire more quickly. The work is world-class, and Jason is always willing to listen to suggestions and adjust to each request.

"Hi Jason... The Bravura came out on top against a Yamaha Chicago Bb -
In a few days I will be putting my Chicago up for sale -
with the Bravura in the house I just can't justify keeping the Yamaha any longer.

"I’ve played since 1965 and owned trumpets from all the top mass-produced makers.
My favorite playing and sounding horns have been Olds, Bach and Couesnon.
Over the years I began to feel a pull toward my trumpet roots and began buying Olds cornets
and trumpets and reselling them when I wasn’t one hundred percent satisfied
that the horn was playing and sounding like
me very first trumpet – Olds Ambassador. Eventually, I picked one up in decent condition
that was made a year or two from 1965. I was satisfied with the trumpet
but it needed some minor dent work and a resolder at one brace.
Since there are no good brass repairmen in my area I began looking online.
I’d known about Jason’s designs and work for several years but never thought I’d become a customer.

Jason and I exchanged a number of emails discussing trumpet related topics and designs etc. ...

... I was shocked to see what appeared to be a brand new
trumpet, completely refitted, redesigned and finished in matte brass –
it looked like gold! Jason’s hand written note explained that he had enjoyed working on my trumpet...

The horn played and sounded great. I noticed the expected differences in tone and response
with fatter, easier slotting lows and uppers that sounded less brilliant and felt closer together
than before Muse. The less brilliant tones heard from my vantage point are not what is heard out in front
of the horn. I made some recordings and listened to them versus the original horn – it sounded great!

I’m very happy with the modification to Muse and know that I made the right choice.
I have played trumpet in many venues over the years and the sound and playability
of my horns is very important to me. Jason Harrelson is truly a first class human being and builder of trumpets.
Thanks so much Jason for all that you have done for me. I look forward to the finishing touch
that the B6 modification will add to the awesome trumpet you built for me.

I may never need another horn for the rest of my life but if I do, you’ll be the first person I contact!"

"Jason, Wow! I have been playing my new 909 for a couple of weeks now
and have to say that I am very satisfied. All of the solders look clean
and I couldn't be more happy with the way the horn looks.

I had a regular come up to me last sunday
at my gig, with the zydeco band that I play with, and tell me
how great my trumpet sounded. Immedietly he was,
"not that you didn't sound good before.  There is just something about your sound today
that is different."  I had to give you credit.  Sure I've been playing the horn alot
since I have gotten it, but, I was still playing all the same old schlock.

After warming up, the first time, with the new horn I pulled out some old concertos
I used to know and was very impressed with the way each note was slotted.
My range, enduance and good times have been improved
with the addition of the horn you made for me.

Thank you and I will stay in touch."

Rob Martin... Illinois (Harrelson 909)

"...Now that I have played the Muse on a couple of band rehearsals and a gig I am absolutely amazed.

The Muse exceeds my expectations, it is by far the best horn I have ever played.

I have owned, or still do, Bach Strad, Connstellation, Schilke, Benge, these horns were not the same but very close in ease of playing, range, endurance.

The Muse is a category of it's own as to response, ease of playing, slotting, range, endurance, characteristics of sound, power .."

Peter Visser, Illinois (Harrelson MUSE)

"Most experts will tell you that to judge the validity of a thing a considerable amount of time must be allowed to observe it accuarately.  Daily checking and double checking it only offers a narrow, miniscule observation.  I have been playing the Triton 966 prototype (Bach 37) for almost two years now.  My initial response to it has been well documented.  In the past 2 years, my career has seen a rapid incline.  I attribute that to hard work and proper timing.  I also believe that my musical growth can be traced back directly to the fine craftsmanship of the Triton 966.  Playing the Triton allowed me to concentrate on making beautiful, heartfelt music.

We have all heard trumpeters spew out a barrage of notes, high and low, fast and slow, and when they're finish, we're left thinking, "you know, that just doesn't sound good to me!".  I will not speak in an all or nothing fashion and suggest that it is merely the horn that makes a player better.  However, I have played several other trumpets and have never experienced the depth of sound that is allowed by playing Jason's horns.  I can't tell you how many times I've finished a performance thinking (like we all do at times), "...oh, I missed that high Eb" or "...I didn't make that change".  Then like clockwork, some musician, usually trumpeters, or singer or just a fan will come up to me and tell me how my sound positively affected them.  That always reaffirms why I play music.  Not to show off my technique but to positively affect a persons life through sound.

So many things have transpired in the last year.  The thing that stands out most to me is the destruction of my home town New Orleans.  Things of that nature, if you are allowed to live THROUGH it, adds depth to your soul.
Experiencing the changing tides of life, such as that, has added layers to my soul. Jason's horns have been conduits for me to fully express who I am through music. "

Thaddeus "Fabulous" Ford, II .... Dallas, TX (Harrelson Triton 966 Prototype)

"Mr. Harrelson

Taking a chance and calling you will prove to be one of the best moves of my musical career. The trumpet has gone far beyond my expectations; words can’t express. But I’ll give it a shot.

I realize looking back on the horns that I’ve played before, that I wasted a lot of energy trying to force the horn to sound a certain way. Almost playing incorrectly to achieve a sound that the horn was not built to make. With my Harrelson trumpet I can finally focus that energy into MAKING MUSIC. The tone is almost automatic, warm and dark, with an ease of play that I’ve never experienced. I can open up behind a vocalist and not be afraid of being too abrasive or harsh. I’m not fighting my horn any longer, and that’s a gift that can’t be put into dollars and cents.
I feel I have found my voice.

I thank you for all you’ve done. Keep making great trumpets and I’ll continue taking it to the people."

"Here are a few shots of me playing LPR modded Olds at Dave Douglas's FONT this past Sept. 15.

This horn gives me the classic fat jazz horn sound I've wanted
coupled with ease of projection and an amazingly even scale.
It's a joy to hold--it fits my hands perfectly--so that it doesn't feel like a heavy horn.
It projects incredibly well. An easy, brilliant upper register is balanced by a big round low end.
This is an amazing trumpet. For more pictures and sound clips, please go to

"What can I say except that it lives up to all my expectations and all the comments I have read over the last few months from various sources on the net etc. The choices you recommended were spot on . The finish is perfect, the caps etc are lovely, finger rings fitted just right. It just looked fantastic.

And all this before I had a chance to give it a blow!

I got home and had a chance to let loose. The sound is fantastic. I found myself understanding just what people were talking about when refering to how easy the notes slot and how centered they sound. The tone as well is beautiful. Very warm and yet if you push a little harder, bright as you like (looking forward to playing Dancing men on tomorrow nights gig!!). Of course it takes a little getting used to how the trumpet responds having come off a Yamaha 6310z and the next few
days and
weeks will be very interesting as I get a handleon it.

I thank you for all the time and effort put into the horn and it is clear from the emails over the last few months that this is not a fly by night operation that
you run and that you are a professional in every sence of the word.

I know that this is early stages in getting into playing a Harrelson trumpet, but all the signs are there and I am sure that I have made the right choice in my purchase and I just wanted to contact you and let you
know. I am also sure that I will be in contact again with an update on how it is going
and I will keep an eye out for those Flugels."

"I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Jason's product offerings while investigating whether or not to revitalize my 1950's Besson trumpet, which was in need of some repairs and a new plating job. Because I don't make my living by playing, I was not anxious to search for a brand new horn when I already had one I liked very much. Jason was able to do the needed repairs, modify the horn to be heavier and more free blowing, and re-plate it, all for less than I would have spent on a new horn of similar quality.
Jason does fine work, and I am now challenged
to become a better player to live up to the potential of my "new" horn."

- Dave Curtis...Thompson Station, TN (Vintage Besson 905)

"Hi Jason,

I got your horn to-day, beautiful! Thank-you so much; I took it to practice tonight and blasted everyone away. We have an Arts festival this week-end and then we are playing for the Jazz festival in Saskatoon on July 2nd. on the same stage as ARTURO SANDOLVOL! One of my daughters will play your TRITON and I will be on the Satellite. Once again, many thanks!...Right out of the box I zipped up to a double high C and then to my complete surprise, I was able to continue to a triple! I am very pleased and proud of my Harrelson horns and eagerly wait to see what Jason may have on the horizon."

- James Pasklar...Regina, SK Canada (Bach 37 Triton II 965, Satellite I)

"Jason did a fantastic job with my trumpet. I can't believe how much better my trumpet sounds. It has improved my range, dynamics, and tone considerably; as well as my left arm!

...

"The mouthpieces are REALLY NICE. When I first tried my 1.5C out, I was amazed at the sound that came out of it when I listened. I compared my other Bach 1.5C to it, and it couldn’t hold a candle to my modified 1.5C! I hit a double G when I was warming up, and that’s rare for me (my range is usually a D or an E, sometimes an F on a really good day)! None of my notes were squeaky, either! In fact, I had to take time to adjust to hitting every note without having to lip it in tune! The 3C plays awesome as well, really nice for notes above the staff.
The thing that I noticed the most, though, was endurance.
I can now play higher for a longer period of time, and really hit the low notes as well!
They both have a nice broad sound that is characteristic of your work!
I couldn’t be happier with them! You did a fantastic job!
I can’t wait ‘til I get my new trumpet! I hope your business is doing well! Lord bless you!"

- Tim Schlater...Harleysville, PA (Selmer 924)

"It's incredible how much better my new trumpet sounds.
My 907 improves my range and tone, the sound is rich and dark, intonation is superb,
playing in the upper registers is so much easier.
It's the best trumpet I've ever played on. Thanks again, Jason!"

-Marco Strambi...Milan, Italy (907)

"Works like a charm!  I've been playing it and I'M IN LOVE......I had not heard the tone of a real trumpet in a long time.  This is the sound I've had in my mind for years and couldn't achieve it with other horns!  May God give you long life so that you keep building these instruments...now I know that this must have been the horn Gabriel played!!!"

"Jason,

Words cannot adequately express my sincere appreciation for all of the work you performed on my horn. As an amateur / volunteer church musician, I have been looking for “that” sound for over (20) years and you have provided it for me. I tried lessons, practicing, weighted valve caps, tone intensifiers along with different mouthpiece rims, cups and backbores yet I could not achieve “that” sound.
Your 909 modification has given me “that” rich, dark, warm yet projecting sound that is amazing!
Your analytical approach to optimizing the vibration of the horn in order to produce “that” sound is quite impressive! If the amazing sound was not enough, the added “bonuses” were very overwhelming. The horn looks wonderful! My endurance has literally doubled! I am now hitting (3) notes higher than ever before! The slotting is excellent yet I can still bend notes at will! The response is so good that my fingers now struggle trying to keep up with my chops! The efficiency is so much better I can now play longer phrases on a single breath! The intonation is so good I thought my electronic tuner was broken! The dynamics are wonderful! I can now play ppp without “hissing” and fff without getting “edgy”.
As for the price, it was extremely reasonable especially when compared to the cost of a comparable new or even used horn of this caliber! As a Quality Assurance professional for (24) years, I can honestly say that your designs, workmanship and more importantly your integrity truly exceeded my expectations. I am proud to be one of your clients and I hope you continue to gain many more clients for many years to come!!!

God Bless"

"I’ve sold my old Martin Committee which I’ve been using as a second, or backup horn.  I did so simply because I didn’t enjoy playing it any longer.  The differences between playing my 907 and this old timer were monumental: I worked twice as hard on the Martin just to sound lousy.  I came to feel that playing the Martin at all was halting my progress with the 907 acclimation.  So now I’m in the market for a second horn, and I guess it will have to be a Harrelson since I have no desire to own or play anything else.  I’m hooked !  I dismissed out of hand the thought of having you modify the Martin because the valve set really was not in a condition that would match the overall quality of a Harrelson modification."

James Beakey...Lady Lake, FL (907)

"The harder you push it, the more it responds... ppp through fff & low F# through double C... always in tune with beautiful tone. Whatever band I'm playing with, I always have the ability to dominate the section"

- Dale Zimmerman...Erie, PA (904)

"I just wanted to say a Big "THANK YOU!" to Jason Harrelson for making a merely good c trumpet into the best instrument I personally have ever played. I have been using a bach 229g/25h with a Harrelson 906 modification at the MET for about 3 months now, and this instrument has been able to do everything I ask. Soft, loud, high, low, intonation, it is all so much
easier. I thought I would never be able to retire the c trumpet I had played on for 15 years (also a 229g/25h). Jason changed all that. I feel like I am
working at least 50% less than before, and getting better results. I LOVE This HORN!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!! "

- Ray Riccomini...NY Metropolitan Opera (Bach C 906)

"I have recently purchased two modifications from Jason Harrelson. I am increasingly impressed daily with the qualities these horns exude. The MUSE is a joy to play. It has to be one of the easiest horns I have ever played. It has more and deeper overtones, a freer response, deeper slots on each note and improved intonation. In short, both of these horns are just really fun to play"

Mark Pelleymounter... Cedar Falls, IA (MUSE & Marquis)

"The horn slots better, better intonation, and most importantly
there is more core to the sound. I wanted to keep the Bach 37 type
sound intact while still improving the horn. I would rank this
horn league of some other masterpieces I have. Included in the photo
are Strider and Coogler blades, and two semi-custom
.45's. A Nighthawk Talon III and a Springfield Professional.
I trust my life to these tools and I trust my trumpet playing
to your horns. This trumpet Kicks ASS
!"

Dave .... St. Paul, MN (Bach 908 Modified)

"Jason, I receieved the trumpet today... absolutely amazing!  I can't even begin to list
the differences.  The sound is wonderful!  The biggest difference is theefficiency!
I've never felt such ease and little effort when playing.  It is awesome!
Being a medical student, music is my outlet; a way to get away from the overload
of information and use the other half of my brain.  Playing has always been a
good time.  Now it's even better.  I think I may be in trouble... I can't put
my horn down and with the greater efficiency I don't have to.  My studies will
have some serious competition!  Thank you so much for making an amazing horn
for a person who isn't professional, but truely loves to play.  You have a gift
and I truely appreciate you making horns for people like me, players who don't
necessarily make their living playing, but love it. Sincerely and gratefully"

Nate Reyes...Syracuse University
(909)

"This horn is so sweet, I can make it sing like no other. The slotting is ridiculously good, intonation and the sound is just superb. Tone, ease of blowing make this trumpet one of a kind. I use to have those trumpet player days, when I sometimes felt like I didn't want to practice, but not anymore. This horn keeps me coming back for more and more everyday!! Thanks again!"

...

"I tried out the 2C today at my band rehearsal, and wow! What a difference.
The guys in the trumpet section told me I sounded so much better than with the
Warburtons I used before. I heard it myself also. What a difference!!!
The sound, tone, the response, projection was so immediate, I couldn't believe it.
I didn't even have to do my normal warmups with your
mouthpiece. It was weird. I felt like I could immediately play without my
normal warmups! Very interesting! You are doing wonders with the equipment
you are creating. The mouthpiece and the horn match up just right!

Oh, really quick, my acclimation with the 909 has been tremendous!
I'm loving the horn now! You were right when you said it will open up,
and believe me it has! I'll tell you more about it later, and I don't
think I will be needing an upgrade to the MUSE just yet.
I'm loving the 909 more and more everyday and now
with the new mouthpiece, just beautiful!"

"The sum total of my feedback is "I am making music."  You have accurately described the benefits of your horns with the word efficient.  However, when I am actually playing, I think differently.  Before your LP Modification I was playing written music and, while live, trying not to encounter my weaknesses, not knowing when one would happen nor how to target my practice to eliminate them...it was a hidden battle but one that I thought was part of trumpet playing and that only hard work could overcome.  I now make music, the horn is no longer an obstacle, it is a tool to make music.  I am free.  Enough of my weaknesses went away that my approach to the horn has changed.  I look forward to making music, not just practicing.  My weaknesses are fewer and I have more confidence than ever that they can all be conquered.  A personal "thank you Jason".

-David Smith... Barrington, IL (LP Mod.)

"Jason--

Good for you on your kind support of the unfortunate victims of Katrina.

I wanted to let you know that I am completely enthralled with the "909" modification I recently purchased. The first Harrelson trumpet was a great improvement over my ML 37 Bach and this latest addition to my trumpet collection is absolutely the best Bb horn I have played in my 40+ years of blowing these fickle hunks of brass. It has tremendous response and slotting throughout my entire range and the intonation is better than I believed the laws of physics would allow! I've played several big band gigs and the ease of playing  in the upper register has noticeably improved my endurance. In fact, I had to sub on lead on a 4 hour job (I usually play 2nd and occaisionally lead) and was still able to comfortably pop out the top of my range at the end of the night. The horn also has the flexibility I'm looking for in small group/solo settings and has been a joy in the Latin and R & B bands I gig with.

In short, you have an extremely loyal and happy customer. I recommend your horns wholeheartedly without the slightest reservation. Thanks for your fine craftsmanship...."

- Miles F Davis...Providence, RI (Prototype Harrelson)

"The Cornet and Flugelhorn play and look better than I had imagined. The craftsmanship is superb.
I'm thrilled with my Harrelson modified horns."

"The Triton 964 Modification seemed to rectify many of the problems encountered in playing the C Trumpet. Intonation is improved and lip adjustments to pitch are accomplished much more readily. The quicker response produces a more pronounced attack when tonguing. This makes the tone quality even better"

- Bill Shank...Brevard, NC (Bach C 964 Triton)

"I can tell you that I haven't felt this much a jump forward in my playing since I originally swapped to Monette Mouthpieces a couple years back - the trumpet is so much easier to play, and what I really like is the fact that it seems to reward correct playing! The more relaxed you play, the better it sounds! The sound is HUGE & its much more secure in the upper register - I've just finished a show on it this past week and hit a double C on the final night - I'm no lead player, so I was well chuffed!"

- Rob Smith...UK (Bach 43 905)

"I had my "trusty" Bach Stradivarius modified by Jason and I have been thrilled with the results.  I had a leadpipe sleeve and slight bracing modification and had the horn silver plated.  The most notable improvments have been in the response and intonation.  The notes from top-space G to above high C are not sharp and squirelly like before.  Everyone who has played my horn has noted this.  On top of all of this, Jason's work was done in a timely manner and he is very professional to work with.  I have recommended Harrelson Trumpet Modifications to my friends and colleagues."

- Taylor Barnett...Richmond, VA (Bach LP)

"Just a quick note to say my 904 mod arrived a few days ago and I can only think of one word to describe it. AWESOME!! The build quality is superb and as for the sound quality, well it knocks the spots off any bach strad. It has a rich dark sound that I have not heard anywhere else, I haven't been able to put it down. Thanks Jason. It was well worth the wait. I can strongly advise anybody thinking of spending money on a new horn to invest in a Harrelson Modification."

- John Haite...England (Yamaha 2320 904)

"Modified Yamaha arrived today. Played it and could hardly put it down, it sounded so good. It sounds so much like a Monette that I am going to tape a Winton Marsalis number, play the same number on the Harrelson Modification, and take bets on which horn is which."

- Dr. Charles White...Alva, OK (Bach Vindabonda C 904, Yamaha 6335HS 904)

"I noticed an immediate improvement in the tone and range. As I played it more frequently, I found that the response was better than any horn that I had played to that point. I had slacked off a little on my playing, but my new horn motivated me to pick it up more often."

- James Newcomb...Twin Cities, MN (Conn 1000B 904)

"Today I received the Harrelson Modified Trumpet for Conn 1000 Doc Severinsen. It was modified really nice and great in tuned heavy sound with your soul. Thanks for your hard work and terrific skill. I would like to introduce your better modifications to Japanese Artists."

"This is what a trumpet ought to sound like"

- R.A. Ebbole...Lake Worth, FL (Jupiter 890)

"... just go my LA Benge with your leadpipe.  It is not the same horn -sound that is.  Wow I can really tell the difference.  Upper register gain is about 3 steps, but the tone is solid and slots easily.  what an improvement."

"Jason,You did a wonderful job on Peter's trumpet. Thank you very much. I haven't seen him this giddy in a long time. He has been playing it continuously.
I know that your name will come up every time somebody sees it. Also, if there is ever anything you need help with please let me know. I am intrigued and impressed by what you are doing.
Thanks again!!"

- Jeff Fliss...Chaska, MN (Holton MF LP+)

"Jason, I am writing to you to let you know that the modification you did to my trumpet is wonderful. I used to have difficulty with cracking my notes, but since I had this modification done I don't crack near as many notes. The sound that comes out of this horn is big, dark, and round. I have also had a lot of compliments on how this trumpet looks. I own a 1981 Bach Strad model 43. I had the 904 modification done with a few little extras added on. I am the lead trumpet for the Golden Valley Orchestra in Golden Valley, MN. The sound and tone quality when I play with this group blends very well. Also, the E's and A's in the upper register are a lot more in tune. I am also the lead trumpet for the Waconia Wind Ensemble. I have no problem leading and cutting through the rest of the band and also blending when I have to. This modification has opened new insights into my playing. I feel more confident and sure that the right sound and dynamics are going to be there when I need them. I would recommend your modifications to any serious trumpet player who is looking for that little edge over the competition and to anyone that is not afraid of being pleasantly surprised.

Your friend in music,"

- John Preston...St.Louis Park, MN (Bach 43 904)

"Wow you made my Christmas. Thanks so much. It is a voice I have been looking for.
Have a great New Year."

- Erik Satie...Denver, CO (B&S 909)

"Received instrument today. Looks wonderful and sounds good.
You are a master craftsman and much thanks. Love the oxidation."

- Michael Theophano...Flourtown, PA (Bach 43 LP)

"Mr. Harrelson. What you have done to my trumpet amazes me. I have never been able to get this kind of dynamic response out of any horn that I've played and flexibility in the high refister. Maybe its just me, but I haven't cracked a high note yet and thats not the usually me. Also, I don't have to worry so much about using my third valve slide and first valve trigger anymore because
I can just lip everything into tune now (though on most notes I don't have to anymore.)

Jake Baldwin...Eden Prairie, MN (OLDS Studio LP)

Jason,

Your reputation and your personal passion for quality led me to believe I was going to be getting a much better trumpet than I started with, but I have frankly been stunned over and over during the past week with just how much better it is after your modifications. I used to have a Bach Stradivarius Lightweight Model 37, and now I have a masterpiece! When we started a dialog a few months back, I gave you a list of three things I wanted from my horn:

    1. Better intonation (my horn had good dose of the inherent intonation problems in many Strads)
    2. Better slotting (again, my horn was a typical, or maybe even an exaggerated, example of that problem common to Strads)
    3. Better endurance (very important to me since I'm not a professional and only play a few hours a week)

Well, you delivered that list and much more. I don't know how to start, except to walk you through my first few days with the horn.

I received my trumpet in last Wednesday's mail, and that night was orchestra rehearsal at church. I'm filling in as director for a few months, so I arrived 45 minutes early since I wasn't going to be playing it much in rehearsal. After warming up, I took out my tuner and found the trumpet to now be extremely pitch-accurate in all ranges - and very well-slotted. In fact, while I was testing my horn, another trumpeter in our brass ensemble walked in and commented how much more in tune my horn was now. (Was I really that bad before!? I guess so!) I don't know whether it was the Blackburn leadpipe you recommended or the modifications you did, but either way, you deserve at least some of the credit. The only thing I need to get used to is fourth-space E. It was so sharp before that my lip and ear got used to it and I have trouble nailing it now without consciously thinking about it before my attack. But that's my fault, and I've already started retraining myself - a VERY small price to pay for playing in tune, don't you think?

Once orchestra rehearsal started, I let one of the other trumpeters play it while I was directing. (I should note that this gentleman is a personal friend of Dave Monette, having been in a trumpet trio with Dave through high school in the 1970s.) It is an understatement to say that he fell in love with it. He commented a number of times during rehearsal on how excellent it performed, and I suspect you may have him as a customer before too long. Later in the rehearsal, we ran a number with the choir, so I was finally able to play with the group while the choir director took charge. What a pleasure! The horn was so free-blowing, I had to back off for the sake of the choir. (I should mention that I had hernia surgery less than three weeks before that, and am definitely weaker now - and I still had to back off!)

The next night was Proclamation Brass rehearsal - the night I was really looking forward to. Of course the improved intonation was welcomed by the entire group, but there were other things I noticed as well. For starters, I still have my entire range available - same as before my surgery when I was stronger. And not only that, the high end of the range is much easier on my embouchure, giving me the better endurance I had sought. In fact, our rehearsal was nearly three hours long, and while I was understandably tired at the end of that time, I still had my entire range available to me.

I’ve also had a couple very nice surprises:

    • Dynamics – My pp attacks now respond instantly, on pitch, at the appropriate volume, with no sputtering. I had no idea this was even possible for me, a true amateur with a 40+ hour day job and a family. And my fff is in no danger whatsoever of "blaring" anywhere in my range. In church this past Sunday, our trumpet trio played a very loud piece (it went down to mf for about a measure and a half) with a two and a half octave range, and I had no problem whatsoever with over-blowing at either G below the staff or C above the staff.
    • Blend – I really cannot believe how different my trumpet sounds now, and yet how much better it blends with others in my ensemble, even though I'm the only one with a Harrelson horn. I suspect part of that is the improved intonation, but I also believe the newfound fullness of my tone just plain makes the other instruments sound better as well. Maybe it brings out new overtones, or maybe it just fills out ones that should have been there all along but weren't. I don't really know for sure. I have to confess - before sending you my horn, I was a little concerned that my "new" horn would not blend as well with the ensemble. Little did I realize that it would be one of my horn's strengths.

Toward the end of brass rehearsal Thursday night, I was struck with the feeling that my Harrelson-modified trumpet was like a brand new Corvette - it very much wants to be opened up and played.
I cannot wait until our next rehearsal - and I heartily recommend your services to ANY serious trumpet player - professional or amateur.

Leward Fluty...Bloomingdale, Michigan (LPR w/ 905 Top Bracing)

"Jason, I just picked up the horn at Fedex - it looks SPECTACULAR and plays
like a dream. You did a fantastic job for which I am extremely grateful."

-David Ramael... Flushing, New York (905 to Sovereign)

"I just got the mouthpiece and I broke it out for a rehearsal I had tonight for Handel's Messiah.
I would like to say your loss is my gain! I couldn't be more pleased.
The sound , the slotting, maybe it was my imagination, but even
"The Trumpets Shall Sound" was much easier.
I really felt like it was less work in the upper ranges. It was really cool looking too :-)"

Thanks again, Ken Flask
